“Law & Constitution” Book Launch: Attorney General’s Remarks
I am sorry that I am unable to attend this evening’s book launch in person due to ill health. I am very grateful to the Deputy Attorney General for bringing these remarks on my behalf.
There is nothing that I would have wanted to do more this evening than to join with you all in celebrating the launch of our Bar President’s inaugural book.
As we gather here this evening to celebrate the publication of Mark’s book, I can’t help but to pause to reflect on just how far we’ve come as a people. From the days of raking salt and donkey carts to the likes of these beautiful, Grand surroundings, we’ve come a long way with God’s grace.
We stand on the shoulders of our forefathers, who could only have dreamed of having grand children and great grand children who would be national and industry leaders or who would be so bold as to dare to be authors of our own story.
We owe them a tremendous debt for their tenacity, grit and faith to advance and achieve despite the adversities they faced in their own country. They have left us an inheritance that we can use to build a strong future for these Turks and Caicos Islands.
I commend Mark for not forgetting to honour our elders through this publication.
A book about the Constitutional history of a place tells the story of the history of that place. It traces the advancement of our people’s struggle through time and records our ambitions, dreams and ideals.
Tonight is the moment when years of solitary work meet the world’s conversation. It is the culmination of a thought, an idea that has been nurtured and developed into reality and something tangible that can be celebrated tonight and for many years to come.
It was my pleasure to have had a small part in it.
Many congratulations to you Mark as you continue to make strides in realizing your goals.
We are very proud of your accomplishment and for the important discussions that are likely to arise from reading its pages.
I pray God’s richest blessings on your life and family and business. I pray that God will guide your every step with purpose, integrity and Godly wisdom.
Many congratulations once again.
Rhondalee Braithwaite-Knowles OBE KC Hon. Attorney General
